Fernando Botero Angulo was a Colombian artist, painter, sculptor, and figurative draftsman.
He is recognized for his characters with round and voluptuous shapes inspired by pre-Columbian art.His work “Still Life with Mandolin,” dating from 1957, constitutes the first manifestation of his work inspired by pre-Columbian and popular art.
Botero won the first prize at the SalĂłn de Artistas Colombianos in 1958, which marked the beginning of his career.Botero is known for his unique style, which is characterized by the exaggeration of the forms and proportions of objects and people in his works.
His characters are often fat and round, giving them a comical and caricatured appearance.
In addition to painting, Botero also dedicated himself to sculpture, drawing, and muralism.Among his most famous works are “The Death of Pablo Escobar,” “Mona Lisa,” “The Presidential Family,” “The Bather,” and "The Fisherman"
